My Practice of Rest and Release
Installation, April- August 2022: Shown at ICA SF, and Root Division
A Practice of Rest and Release is a series of pieces based on death rituals, in a celebratory context.
While we generally tend to leverage “being present” with potential regret at the end of our lives, I’m highlighting the wonder of being reborn multiple times during.
Accompanying the altar are 3-Track EP that was produced/updated with each showing, that can be found to the right of this text.
I encouraged the audience to interact with a honey jar. The symbolism/act is a reference to an altar call that was traditional in my upbringing, where folks were given an open space to lay down/sit with/release their burdens.
